Synthetics in modern interiors. Conservation and (re)design of plastic finishes, furniture and products.
On March 5, 2018, BIOPLA participated in a one-day international seminar organized by the Faculty of Design Sciences, UAntwerpen. Topic of the day? Plastic interior objects and their conservation. The two morning seminars were devoted to the history of plastic in design, and plastic heritage in Belgium. After the lunch break, we talked about plastic design in a circular economy. The big challenge in the plastic future is to become inventive with new materials. Some interesting speakers told how their companies are experimenting with the next generation of polymers. We discussed how to innovate in heritage and design in times of a circular economy. Between seminars there was a coffee break where students, professors and professionals met. BIOPLA had an information booth where people could get inspired by our mission and products. The students from the Design Sciences faculty were very interested in our materials used. We ended the day with a nice networking reception, and went home with new knowledge.
